Ordinary

Lester: It’s a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself. Makes you wonder what else you can do that you’ve forgotten about.

Brad: [Reading Lester’s job description] “My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men’s room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn’t so closely resemble Hell.” Well, you have absolutely no interest in saving yourself.
Lester: Brad, for 14 years I’ve been a whore for the advertising industry. The only way I could save myself now is if I start firebombing.
Brad: Whatever. Management wants you gone by the end of the day.
Lester: Well, just what sort of severance package is management prepared to offer me? Considering the information I have about our Editorial Director buying pussy with company money, which I think would interest the I.R.S., since it technically constitutes fraud, and I’m sure that some of our advertisers and rival publications might like to know about it as well. Not to mention, Craig’s wife!
Brad: What do you want?
Lester: One year’s salary, with benefits.
Brad: That’s not going to happen.
Lester: Well, what do you say I throw in a little sexual harassment charge, to boot?
Brad: Against who?
Lester: Against YOU. Can you prove that you didn’t offer to save my job if I let you blow me?
Brad: Man, you are one twisted fuck.
Lester: Nope. I’m just an ordinary guy with nothing to lose.

Carolyn: Your father and I were just discussing his day at work. Why don’t you tell our daughter about it, honey?
Lester: Janie, today I quit my job, and then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars.
Carolyn: Your father seems to think this kind of behavior is something to be proud of.
Lester: And your mother seems to prefer I go through life like a fucking prisoner while she keeps my dick in a Mason jar under the sink.
Carolyn: How dare you speak to me that way in front of her. And I marvel that you can be so contemptuous of me, on the same day that you lose your job.
Lester: I didn’t lose it. It’s not like, “Whoops! Where’d my job go?” I quit!

***

Angela: I hope you don’t mind if I play the stereo.
Lester: Not at all. Bad night?
Angela: Not really bad, just… strange.
Lester: Believe me, it couldn’t possibly be any stranger than mine.
Angela: Jane and I had a fight. It was about you. She’s mad at me because I said I think you’re sexy.
Lester: Do you want a sip?
Angela: Sure.
Lester: So, are you gonna tell me? What do you want?
Angela: I don’t know.
Lester: You… don’t know.
Angela: What do you want?
Lester: Are you kidding? I want you. I’ve wanted you since the first moment I saw you. You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
Angela: You don’t think I’m ordinary?
Lester: You couldn’t be ordinary if you tried.
Angela: Thank you. I don’t think there’s anything worse than being ordinary.

***

Lester: I guess I could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me, but it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst. And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain, and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life. You have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m sure. But don’t worry. You will someday.

Lolita

Humbert Humbert: A normal man given a group photograph of schoolgirls and asked to point out the loveliest one will not necessarily choose the nymphet among them. You have to be an artist, a madman, full of shame and melancholy and despair in order to recognize the little deadly demon among the others. She stands unrecognized by them, unconscious herself of her fantastic power.

Lolita (1997)

The One Who Knocks

Walter White: Who are you talking to right now? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how much I make a year? I mean, even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe it. Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop going in to work? A business big enough that it could be listed on the NASDAQ goes belly-up, disappears. It ceases to exist without me. No. You clearly don’t know who you’re talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks.

Breaking Bad S04E06

Blood Eagle

Carved upon your naked back
Blood eagle!
Skinned alive your ribs are cracked
Blood eagle!
Still alive you gasp for air
As panic strikes your eyes they stare
Terror grips your dying heart
Blood eagle!

Helpless on the ground
Hands and feet tightly bound
In my eyes no mercy found
My sharp knife starts to carve around

Penetrate your naked skin
Rip flesh and dig within
With a pleased and twisted grin
I spread your lungs like eagle’s wings

Am I Evil?

Beth: Dad? I feel like I’ve spent my life pretending you’re a great guy and trying to be like you, and the ugly truth has always been…
Rick: That I’m not that great a guy and you’re exactly like me.
Beth: Am I evil?
Rick: Worse. You’re smart. When you know nothing matters, the universe is yours, and I’ve never met a universe that was into it. The universe is basically an animal. It grazes on the ordinary. It creates infinite idiots just to eat them, not unlike your friend Timmy.
Beth: Tommy.
Rick: Yeah, it hardly matters now, sweetie. You know, smart people get a chance to climb on top, take reality for a ride, but it’ll never stop trying to throw you, and eventually, it will. There’s no other way off.
Beth: Dad, I’m out of excuses to not be who I am. So who am I? What do I do?
Rick: My advice… Take off. Put a saddle on your universe. Let it kick itself out.

The Enemy

Hey! Oh, Mr. Back-Stabbing-Son-of-a-Bitch
You’re livin’ in a world that’ll soon be dyin’
And I know, everybody knows you try to be like me
But even at your best as a man
You couldn’t equal half of me

You! You’re another shit talkin’ punk to me
You’re a living inspiration for what I never wanna be
I see you’ve been blinded by what you believe
Now back up and sit down, shut up and act like you need to be

I am realizing
That everybody’s lost their simple ways
And now that it’s here, I see it oh, so clearly
I’ve come face to face with the enemy
Oh, the enemy

So predicting, you’re the reason why I lie
Simple decision took me too much time to fly
Oh, check mate!

Made of Scars

This one came from looking, this one opened twice
These two seemed smooth as silk, flush against my eyes
This one need stitches, and this one came from rings
This one isn’t even there, but I feel it more because you don’t care

Yeah, cut right into me
Yeah, because I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars

This one had it coming, this one found a vein
This one was an accident, but never gave me pain
This one was my father’s, and this one you can’t see
This one had me scared to death, but I guess I should be glad I’m not dead

Yeah, cut right into me
Yeah, because I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars

This one was the first one, this one had a vice
This one, here, I like to rub on dark and stormy nights
This one was the last one, I don’t remember how
But I remember blood and rain, and I never saw it coming again

Yeah, cut right into me
Yeah, because I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars
That’s what I’m made of

Don’t Run

Morty: Hey, uh, y-you doing okay? I kind of know how you feel, Summer.
Summer: No, you don’t. You’re the little brother. You’re not the cause of your parents’ misery. You’re just a symptom of it.
Morty: Can I show you something?
Summer: Morty, no offense, but a drawing of me you made when you were eight isn’t gonna make me feel like less of an accident.
Morty: That, out there? That’s my grave.
Summer: Wait, what?
Morty: On one of our adventures, Rick and I basically destroyed the whole world, so we bailed on that reality and we came to this one. Because in this one, the world wasn’t destroyed. And in this one, we were dead. So we came here, a-a-and we buried ourselves, and we took their place. And every morning, Summer, I eat breakfast 20 yards away from my own rotting corpse.
Summer: So, you’re not my brother?
Morty: I’m better than your brother. I’m a version of your brother you can trust when he says ‘don’t run’. Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody’s gonna die. Come watch TV.
